Our Projects

Our Projects

Enhancing Muskingum one planter at a time.

We’re working to make sure that when people visit Zanesville, they experience an environment that immediately creates a strong positive impression.

Mission Oaks Gardens

These gardens are maintained year round by volunteers and employees. New plantings are added each season. The gardens are open to the public with guided tours given by volunteers.

Downtown Zanesville Planters

As of 2017 the garden society now plants and maintains over 150 containers with summer and winter interest. It is accomplished with fund raising sponsorships in early winter by business and private citizens.

Beautification Projects

Each year the Society chooses to do a beautification project. Among those have been Alfred Carr Center, Convention Bureau of Zanesville, and most recently Secrest Auditorium.

Y-Bridge

Zanesville’s charming bridge stands among just a few bridges in the world that can be crossed without changing sides of the river.

2023 Spring Symposium

The Muskingum Valley Garden Society will hold its 20th annual spring fever home gardening symposium in Zanesville. The event features speakers and educators on topics such as container gardening, vegetable gardening, organic gardening, lawn care, tree care, water gardening and others. Information will also be given for those who wish to volunteer for garden society projects and attend other workshops this growing season.

Yard Crashers

Each Spring and Fall, at least 10 members of the Garden Society can be hired to work in your yard for a minimum of 2 hours for just $300. Past Yard Crasher recipients have had landscapes completely redone, new plants and trees planted, bushes trimmed and removed and much more. Contact us to schedule or to learn more.
